Summer season starts in Vuokatti and Klingenthal

The months of waiting are over. The Nordic Combined summer season 2017 will get under way with a FIS Youth Cup in Vuokatti, Finland from the 3rd - 5th of August and an OPA Alpencup event in Klingenthal, Germany following two days later.

Both international competitions aim at the young Nordic Combined athletes - the FIS Youth Cup at boys and girls competing in Nordic Combined and born between 1999 and 2005 and the OPA Alpencup will feature young Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined ladies born between 1998 and 2004.

As the normal hill in Vuokatti could not be renovated in time for the FIS Youth Cup, only the HS 54 will will be in use, which means only boys of the category Youth I (born 2003-2005) will be on start. In total, 20 athletes from five nations are set to compete in Finland, joined by five athletes born 2006-2010, who will compete in an open international event on the HS 32 hill.

The program will feature one competition with the cross-country part held in Vuokatti’s ski tunnel and one competition with a roller-ski race. The athletes have the chance to meet and get to know each other in numerous social activities, including a bib draw ceremony, common dinners and prize giving ceremonies as well as the almost traditional swimming, sauna and barbecue party in the backyard of the Vuokatti sports complex. The time in Finland will be rounded off with different training options on the hills, the roller-ski track and the ski tunnel outside of the competition times.

Only two days later, on Monday, the 7th of August, the Nordic Combined ladies will have the chance to compete together with the Ladies’ Ski Jumping Alpen Cup in Klingenthal, Germany. 21 female Nordic Combined athletes are entered for the competition. The first round of the ski jumping competition on the newly reconstructed HS 85 hill will count as the competition round for a Nordic Combined Individual Gundersen, which will be complete with a 3 km running race at the Waldhotel Vogtland.

The second Nordic Combined Alpencup competition will follow only a few days later, at the 11th of August in Bischofsgrün, Germany (HS 71, 4 km).

Results will be available here.
