Grass Skiing World Cup season concludes

The 2017 Grass Skiing World Cup season concluded last weekend in Santa Caterina with two slalom races staged for men’s and ladies’ determining the overall season winners.

On the men’s World Cup tour, Italian Edoardo Frau skied to his second consecutive overall title with 590 points. Michael Stocker (AUT) made things interesting during the final weekend as he applied pressure with top runs and podium finishes, but ultimately, he could not overcome Frau’s lead and took second place with 557 points. Third place on the season went to Stefan Portman.

On the ladies’ World Cup tour, Slovakian Barbara Mikova also picked up her second overall title. Milkova had to settle for second place in the overall standings last season, but this season she was the dominant force on the tour. She collected an impressive 860 points and won every event title as well, with the exception of the combined.

Second place went to Jacqueline Gerlach (AUT), who also had an outstanding season with 810 points. She finished in second place is every event behind Milkova, and picked up the combined title. Rounding out the top three was Gerlach’s teammate Kristin Hetfleisch, a good distance behind the top two with 630 points.

While the World Cup season is finished, there is still plenty of further action in the Grass Skiing season with the Junior World Championships underway in Sauris (ITA) through 1st September and the World Championships coming up in Kaprun 5th-10th September.
