Åre 2019 ready for Season Finals next March

Autumn was in the air as the Coordination Group met for its sixth time in Åre (SWE), host of 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Representatives from FIS, the Åre 2019 Local Organising Committee, Swedish Ski Association, Ski Star, the Town of Åre and Infront Sports & Media were on hand to go over the latest progress during the off season.

After successfully hosting the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships at the end of last winter, much of the focus over the summer months was preparing for the final sporting test before the World Championships when Åre will host the Audi FIS Ski World Cup season finals in March 2018.

Always an intense week with a packed schedule, the Åre 2019 Organisers are ensuring they are prepared to put their best foot forward when the top Alpine athletes descend upon the Swedish town to claim the 2017/18 Crystal Globes.

With infrastructure and course building well on track, the Åre 2019 Organisers also turned their focus to other areas surrounding the World Championships. Themes such as volunteer recruitment, ticket sales and promotion of both the Finals and the World Championships took centre stage.

“The goal is to gradually build on the experience and excitement from the FIS Junior World Championships to the season Finals and to ultimately bring it all together for the World Championships in February 2019, said Åre 2019 CEO Niklas Carlsson. “We are fortunate to have already hosted the Championships in 2007 and have strong community support and interest.”

“It is great to see the big steps the Åre 2019 Organisers are making. They laid a very solid foundation from the first day by ensuring strong partnerships between the Local Organising Committee, the Swedish Ski Association, Skistar and the Town of Åre and now everyone is seeing the benefits of their diligent planning and forward thinking. I think when the athletes arrive for the Season Finals this winter they will be impressed with the set-up,” said FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis.
