Ulrike Graessler ends her career

As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced on Saturday, Ulrike Graessler has decided to end her career in Ski Jumping.

Due to injuries, she sustained in a serious fall in 2015, the 31-year-old was not able to participate in many competitions recently and so she was not named to any of the German teams for this season. "In this situation, I have decided that my time as an athlete is over", said Ulrike Graessler, who now wants to focus on her career in the federal police. 

The athlete of the ski club in Klingenthal was competing in the ladies' World Cup since its inaugural season 2011/12 and achieved her best results 2012 with third places in Zao (JPN) and Predazzo (ITA). At the World Championships 2009 in Liberec, Ulrike Graessler won the silver medal in the individual event, four years in later she took bronze with the German mixed-team in Predazzo. 

"Ulrike Graessler is a pioneer, who was working for the development of her sport from the first day of her career. Beyond her own goals, she has fought for ladies' Ski Jumping and achieved a lot. She was one of four outstanding female ski jumpers when we only had the Continental Cup, in the World Cup she was an important part of our team and represented us at the first World Championships and Olympic Games", head coach Andreas Bauer is quoted in a media release of the DSV.
