Rollerski events spread in China and Thailand

Rollerski is an easy and attractive way to spread the sport of Cross-Country Skiing all over the world in the summer months and the events are reaching more and more countries.

Next to many initiatives to expose a new public to Cross-Country Skiing and Rollerski in different events, to celebrate the third anniversary since Beijing won the bid for the Olympic Winter Games 2022, a first FIS Rollerski competition took place in Bai Yin (CHN) on July 25th to 29th. The event programme featured ladies' and men's 20 km classic races, 1.8 km and 0.2 km free sprint competitions.

More than 300 athletes from China, Norway, Sweden and Russia took part. Besides the FIS races, there were also competitions for youth and amateur athletes, with almost 500 athletes competing.

The government in Thailand is also supporting the budding roller ski activity in the country and is supporting the Ski and Snowboard Association of Thailand in hosting two events, in late August and September.

The second event will also be used to select the athletes for the Asian Winter School Games in Russia in February 2019. The programme will possibly contain a coaching and referee seminar as well.
