Cross-Country season starts early in Davos

Despite the exceptionally hot summer, the four kilometer course in the Flüela valley in Davos will be ready on October 27, 2018. Cross-country skiers start the new season early in Davos Klosters.

The warm summer temperatures have not left their mark on the snow mountain in Flüela valley. "I assume that we have lost 20%," says Norbert Gruber, head of Davos plant operations. According to Gruber, who is responsible for snowmaking, around 15,000 cubic meters of the snow will be left from 20,000 cubic meters of snow, which was covered under a thick sawdust layer. "This is not a problem, we will manage the four kilometer lap."

Partially reserved for professionals

The Flüela course is challenging and ideal for professionals and experienced cross-country skiers. In addition to the Swiss national team, top athletes from other cross-country nations also train here. That's why the snowfarming trail remains reserved for competitive athletes at certain times of the day. As a contribution to the cost of this additional offer, a fee will be charged for using the snowfarming trail in November. From December and as soon as further trails are open, the entire trail network is available to you free of charge.
