Many FIS athletes recognised with Laureus Awards nominations

The votes are in and the world’s sports media have selected the highest achieving men, ladies and teams over the past calendar year as the nominees for the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards, one of the world’s pre-eminent international sports awards.

Among the nominees are many well-known FIS athletes, who have been recognised for their impressive performances. 

Winter Olympic champions Ester Ledecka (CZE) and Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) are in the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award category, while downhill skiing champion Sofia Goggia (ITA) is nominated for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year.

Snowboarder Mark McMorris (CAN) and alpine legend Lindsey Vonn (USA) are nominees in Laureus World Comeback of the Year category and snowboarding superstars lead the nominations for the Laureus Action Sportsperson of the Year Award: Olympic Winter champions Chloe Kim (USA) and Shaun White (USA) and Big Air gold medallist Anna Gasser (AUT) are in contention.

The Laureus Sporting Moment Award celebrates the moments that embody the true values of sport and its unique power to change the world for the better. Ski Jumping legend Sven Hannawald congratulating Polish superstar Kamil Stoch, after he completed the Grand Slam of all Four Hills Tournament victories, is among the chosen moments this year.

The Laureus World Sports Awards will be awarded in Monaco on Monday 18thFebruary 2019, where the cream of global sport – past, present and future – will gather to celebrate another special year of sport.
