Ski Jumper Morgenstern Included in Austrian Olympic Team Despite Crash
Triple Olympic gold medal-winning ski jumper Thomas Morgenstern was included in Austria’s Olympic squad Monday, despite being hurt in a terrifying crash this month.

The 27-year-old was diagnosed with injuries to his skull and lungs on January 10, when a jump went wrong in training near Salzburg.

According to the Austrian Olympic Committee vice-president Peter Schrocksnadel, a final decision on his participation in the Games will be made in Sochi by team doctors.

Morgenstern won the individual large hill event and the team event with Austria at the Turin 2006 Olympics, and won the team event again at Vancouver 2010. He also has eight world championship gold medals in ski jumping.

Austria will be represented in Sochi by a record 130 athletes in 14 events, with two-time Turin Olympic Alpine skiing champion Benjamin Raich as the nation's flag-bearer.

Ski jumping events will be held at the Sochi’s RusSki Gorki Jumping Center from February 8 to 17.
