Political upheaval and construction delays have threatened completion of the project. It was due to open in 2016 but it has been put back.

The snowdome is currently under construction in Cairo, not a city normally associated with skiing.

The company behind the Snowdome in Dubai is creating one in its Mall of Egypt.

We have reported on it in the past on PlanetSKI and it is now beginning to take shape.

The ski slopes is just a small part of the project that will see 400 shops, a 17-screen cinema with 50 cafes and restaurants.

It has been announced that the $400m mall will open in 2016.
