Falun 2015 hands over to Lahti 2017
Yesterday was the last day for Falun as World Championships hosts; the next World Championships will be held in 2017 in Lahti, Finland. Organizing the next World Championships makes Lahti historic since it is the seventh time they are hosting the event. Last time the town were organizers was in 2001.

The World Championships in Lahti will run from 22 February to 5 March 2017 using the Falun programmes as a model.
“Organizing a World Championships is a unique opportunity and we’re really looking forward to being host” says Janne Leskinen, CEO of the World Championships organizers in Lahti 2017.

Rebuilding the jumping hills and ski trails is in full swing and the marketing around the event has already started. Lahti is organizing a World Championships where everyone should feel welcome and that is working with the motto “Games where everybody feels at home”.

1,600 volunteers have already been recruited but more will come. The goal is to have 2,500 participating volunteers during the period.

In addition to the World Championships in Finland 2017, the country will be celebrating 100 years as an independent nation.
Janne Leskinen thanks Falun for a well-organized event and sees a major challenge ahead of him in organizing a World Championships at the same level.
