The World Cup resumes in Lahti
After very intense and exciting World Championships in Falun, Sweden, the World Cup 2014/15 will now conclude with its regular tour through Scandinavia. First up is the Finnish venue of Lahti where all three Nordic disciplines will reunite again.
But even though the season highlight is over, there are still plenty of stories to be finished before the season can be fully put to rest. With the one Individual Gundersen event in Lahti, overall World Cup leader Eric Frenzel can secure his third crystal globe in a row and is missing only three victories to move to the third position in the all-time best list, three individual victories he could potentially achieve before the season ends.
The third position in the all-time best list is currently held by France’s Jason Lamy Chappuis. The Nordic Combined superstar has announced his retirement in Falun and will therefore be on farewell tour in Lahti, Trondheim and Oslo. Will be be able to up his count of World Cup victories by two and maybe catch Ronny Ackermann who still resides in the second place with 28 victories?
The Team Sprint event will also be under close scrutiny on Saturday as the Finnish local heroes Ilkka Herola and Jim Härtull captured a widely noticed fourth place in the World Championships just now. Will they be able to repeat their great performance and delight the home crowd?
