Bjoergen wins 5th Holmenkollen 30 km to end World Cup season
Marit Bjoergen of Norway capped off her incredible season with her 5th Holmenkollen 30 km victory. She led a Norwegian sweep of the podium with Therese Johaug in second +11.6 back and Astrid Jacobsen in third +44.5 seconds behind. With her win today Bjoergen became the first female athlete to win consecutive Holmenkollen titles.
Holmenkollen 2015 - Top 3 ladies
For the second time in her career Bjoergen has won all three crystal globes as the best overall skier, best distance skier and the World Cup's best sprint. She becomes the first athlete to ever win all three globes twice. Virpi Kuitunen (FIN in 2006/07) and Justyna Kowalczyk (POL in 2009/10) have also one all three globes in one season but not more than once.
Bjoergen, Johaug, Jacobsen and Sweden's Charlotte Kalla broke away from the field before the halfway point in the competition. A fall for Jacobsen dropped her from the leading group and she was unable to rejoin, but Kalla fatigued as the towards the end of the competition and with less than 5 kilometers to go Jacobsen caught Kalla and moved comfortably into third place. On the final big climb Bjoergen attacked and Johaug was unable to match the speed and Bjoergen cruised into the finish waving to the home crowd.

I knew that I had a strong finish and relied on that. But after 30 km you never know. It is great to end the season with the victory. I am tired now but I am motivated to continue. I’ll see in the spring.

I’m happy with my performance and for the second place. It was am awesome experience to compete in Holmenkollen. Marit was great today and it is inspiring to see Marit being so good in all the distances.

I lost feeling in my leg in the second lap. It was difficult to control the ski. Despite the fall I had a great race and I was able to to take 20 seconds on Charlotte Kalla in the last lap.
