Falun 2015 passes on valuable know-how and advice
It has been just over one month since the successful FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun (SWE) came to a close. On Wednesday, 9th April, the Falun Organising Committee presented the outcome of the event at the official Debrief in Lahti (FIN).
A delegation of five representatives, led by CEO Sven Von Holst, presented the report from Falun 2015, which was held at the site of the next upcoming Championships, Lahti 2017. A group of more than 25 representatives from Lahti and two from the Austrian Ski Association and Seefeld 2019, attended the presentation, to receive valuable information and advice. The television and marketing rights holders, EBU with Tridem, as well as representatives from FIS completed the group.
"This extremely valuable debrief was excellent closure after the great experience of working with Falun 2015 for the past five years in preparing and staging the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. They did a good job of openly sharing their knowledge which as appreciated by all the participants. One last time, the group went ‘Beyond Expectations’" commented FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis.
The discussions during the session, included how Falun 2015 managed the challenges with developing the Lugnet Arena and how they created their communications and promotion plan which ultimately led to ticket sales that exceeded all the set goals. Another notable achievement was the way that the Organiser succeeded in creating a true festival and spirit during the competitions, with their ceremonies and the downtown evening programmes.
Lewis highlighted a key factor for the success of the Falun Championships was their detailed long-term planning, which enabled the Championships to be conducted at the highest level. The Organiser successfully used the Championships as a key opportunity to upgrade their venue and facilities, which will serve the sport and community for many years to come.
The Lahti 2017 team used the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the Falun group and will continue to use the best practices and advice presented when looking ahead.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the Falun 2015 team. They have set the bar high for us to follow, but we are ready for the challenge that awaits us in the next two years”, said Janne Leskinen, General Director of Lahti 2017.
