AIOWF calls for constructive dialogue between SportAccord and stakeholders
The seven federations of the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF) met at the SportAccord Convention in Sochi (RUS) on Tuesday, 21st April 2015 with FIS President Gian Franco Kasper overseeing his first general assembly as the President.

It was a full agenda as the association received updates from the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee and from the IOC Sports Department about the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and the implementation of the Agenda 2020, as well as the World Anti-Doping Agency.

“We’re coming into the first winter with a number of World Cup test events and the focus is becoming very operational now with POCOG, so it was a necessary and important meeting,” said AIOWF and FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis.

Additionally, AIOWF received an update on the Olympic Channel, one of the key items on the Olympic Agenda 2020 plan.

“The Olympic channel representatives are meeting with all the IFs individually to discuss their individual opportunities,” Lewis informed, “The presentation to AIOWF showed the concept which is designed to both support and promote the Olympic Movement,” Lewis said of the highly anticipated project.”

One of the biggest talking points at the SportAccord Convention this year was SportAccord President Marius Vizer’s opening comments, which were critical of the IOC and Olympic Agenda 2020. The AIOWF responded as a group to his opening day speech issuing the following statement:

“AIOWF in its capacity as the Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations representing seven Members of the SportAccord Association express its disagreement with the occasion and manner in which the opinions of the SportAccord President were expressed during the SportAccord General Assembly on 20th April.

The AIOWF Members call for constructive dialogue between SportAccord and all stakeholders in the interests of the Olympic Movement.”

Additionally, AIOWF and its summer counterpart, ASOIF, are scheduled to meet on Thursday morning for their annual exchange of information and discussing matters of common interest.
