Vail/Beaver Creek 2015 shares final report
Two months after the successful FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015 in Vail/Beaver Creek (USA), the Vail/Beaver Creek Organising Committee presented the outcome of the event at the official Debrief in St. Moritz (SUI) on 30th April.
A delegation of three representatives, led by CEO Ceil Folz, presented the report from Vail/Beaver Creek 2015, which was held appropriately on a snowy day at the site of the next Championships, St. Moritz 2017. A group of more than 20 representatives from St. Moritz, as well as three from Are 2019, attended the presentation, to receive valuable information and advice. The television and marketing rights holders, EBU with Tridem, as well as representatives from FIS completed the group.
”Two years ago at the debrief from Schladming 2013, we were all “dreaming” about the 2015 World Championships. Two months ago we “lived” those Championships that exceeded all expectations. Today was a chance for Vail/Beaver Creek to “share” their experiences and pass along the valuable knowledge as well as recommendations they gained on their journey” commented FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis, referencing the #Vail2015 tagline: Dream it, Live it, Share it.
Vail/Beaver Creek opened the presentation by sharing their spectacular final numbers, which included 220,958 spectators including 25,000 at the men’s downhill. EBU presented television viewing figures with 800 million viewers tuning in in 27 different nations with 70 hours of live coverage. Finally, 2,200 volunteers put in more than 175,000 hours to make the Championships possible.
The 2015 Organising Committee then dove into the specific details about every aspect of hosting the World Championships, including the sport organisation, accreditation, accommodation, transportation, constructing temporary facilities, media services, spectator engagement and many other notable areas. One achievement in particular was the way that the Vail/Beaver Creek Organisers succeeded in creating a true festival and spirit during the competitions with their ceremonies and evening programmes.
Lewis highlighted that in this third time of Vail/Beaver Creek hosting the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships that the Organisers went above and beyond to attract spectators and create an unforgettable atmosphere. The Organiser and United States Ski Association (USSA) successfully used the Championships as a key opportunity to promote skiing in the U.S., which they hope will inspire the next generation of skiers.
The St. Moritz 2017 team used the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the Vail/Beaver Creek group and asked numerous questions in the dynamic presentation.
“This debrief in St. Moritz symbolises that the Vail/Beaver Creek 2015 Championships have now concluded and we are so proud to have achieved such a fantastic event that has been widely praised by our community, as well as internationally. Vail and St. Moritz are sister cities and we are thrilled to be able to support her with all possible knowledge from the Championships in Vail Beaver Creek, since there are no closer relations than sisters.”
