The Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard preparations for PyeongChang 2018 at Phoenix Park are in focus these days with a major inspection by FIS. Joe Fitzgerald and Martin Fiala for Freestyle Skiing along with the Snowboarding staff Uwe Beier and Roberto Moresi are meeting with members of the Organising Committee and the International Olympic Committee.
During the past season, the FIS experts along with the resort designing company Ecosign approved the venue designed for the six competitions to be held in Phoenix Park during the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
During the 2015/16 season, the Olympic test events are scheduled in ski and snowboard cross and ski and snowboard slopestyle.
Joe Fitzgerald, FIS Freestyle Skiing Coordinator said: “The construction of the courses is scheduled to start soon which will include earthmoving and the snowmaking system. It has been invaluable to discuss the plans and timelines in order to have the sites ready for the World Cup competitions which are planned for February 2016.”
Uwe Beier, FIS Snowboard Race Director indicated that: “We are working through our different checklists and scheduling systems to support the Organisers and to ensure the competitions will take place at the highest standards. There is already a huge interest in these competitions at the next Olympic venue and we hope that the designing efforts we did last year along with the timelines will ensure that all courses will be ready on time.”
Phoenix Park is a fully functioning major ski area and is well serviced by gondolas, detachable chairlifts and an extensive snowmaking system and is located approximately 30 minutes from the Athletes Village.
