Multifaceted TD Seminar in Seefeld
As in every uneven year, the Nordic Combined TD Seminar also took place in 2015, bringing all active technical delegates of the discipline of Nordic Combined together in Seefeld, Austria to get an update on rule changes, educate new candidates and compare practical work and experiences from the past two seasons.
In the two days in the TRIPLE and future World Ski Championship venue, the group of more than 50 officials had sessions on the most recent rule changes and discussed the task lists of the Technical Delegate and his Assistant in group work and also in the big plenum.
Alpine snow expert Hans Pieren took a lot of time to pass his experience in using salt to harden snow in difficult weather situations on to the group, a task that has been growing in importance more and more in the last few winters as the weather conditions have been growing more and more complicated. With many examples from his personal experience as Alpine Race Director and also as Chief of Track for the alpine race in Adelboden, Pieren equipped the officials with new insights and tools to handle difficult situations in the future. A practical demonstration with a box of snow in +20°C outside temperature showed how effective different salting methods can be when applied correctly.
Following Pieren’s presentation, the TDs set out to inspect the hill and track and compared their different methods of working, measuring and handling the conditions on location.
A written test for the new TD aspirants which produced eight happy new TDs in training and a cheerful social evenings concluded the two days on a very highs note.
