Sochi / Krasnaya Polyana in summer 2015
A look back to Sochi, 18 months after the end of the XXII Olympic Winter Games. When Carina Vogt (GER), Poland's Kamil Stoch (2x) and the German men's team took the Gold medals in February 2014 in Sochi, nobody really knew what the future will bring for the ski jumping facility and the Krasnaya Polyana region, which was turned into an exclusive winter sports resort.

By now it became clear that the post-Olympic concept for the Russki Gorki Ski Jumping Center in Esto Sadok, 40 km out of Sochi, works.

The complete RusSki Gorki ski jumping facility is now under the management of the Ministry of sports of Russia . The facility has become a popular destination for tourists. Guided tours for over 100 visitors from all over the world are held daily. During these tours the visitors get an inside look and background information about the current state of the facility and the complete history, from the planning to the construction and to the Olympic competitions.

The ski jumping facility is also covered with plastic mats and can be used for training and competitions all year round. This year the Russian national championships in ski jumping and nordic combined and a FIS Grand Prix in nordic combined will be held in Sochi. During the training camps the medical support and the accommodation at the facility can be used. As part of the physical education in the Sochi region, ski jumping courses for boys and girls are held, so ski jumping is very popular in this area.

The whole Krasnaya Polyana region, with its modern and comfortable hotels, has become a popular tourist destination. In summer it's popular among hikers, cyclists and nature lovers, in winter, snow sports fans come to visit the big and modern ski resorts. Over the past 18 months the hotels were very well booked. Last winter there were even more inquiries than vacant beds. Especially around Christmas it was not possible to get an accommodation in a private room or in hotels. Krasnaya Polyana reported: Fully booked - no free rooms.

Besides the facilities in Chaikovsky (K125 ,K95, K60, K40, K20, K10) and Nizhniy Tagil (K120, K90, K60 and K40), the ski jumping facility in Sochi, resp. Esto Sadok (K125 and K95), is the third big ski jumping facility in Russia that can be used all year long.
