Successful Leaders’ Seminar in Vilnius

The annual FIS Leaders’ Seminar was successfully staged last weekend in Vilnius (LTU) with a diverse group of more than 30 participants from 22 different nations.

During the full two days, the participants were treated to presentations and took part in active workshops on a variety of topics that will give them the tools to implement a variety of programmes back in their home countries. Themes included: The Financing of Sport Infrastructure, The Structure of EU Funding, Sponsorship and Integrity in Sports.

The lecturers also came from both within the ski family including Mila Andreeva (BUL) and outside the ski industry, whose engagement was much appreciated with presentations and Q & A sessions from FIS partners Eddy Frère from Sufag (MND) and Sebi Lüönd from Doppelmayr-Garaventa.

The opening speech was held shortly after arrival of the participants by FIS Council Member and Chair of the FIS Development Programme Working Group Alfons Hörmann. The group also had time to explore the ski infrastructure of host Lithuania as they were treated to a tour of the Snow Arena, the indoor ski resort in Druskininkai 120 km away from Vilnius. Naturally, there was also time to explore the city.

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis updated the FIS Development Programme leaders about FIS activities, and led a session on Sports Integrity. “Vilnius, Lithuania was an excellent host for the Leader’s Seminar, which was very well organised. It fulfilled the objective of bringing together persons from different backgrounds and with a range of experiences and enable learning and sharing,” she said. “This year we had great engagement both during the workshops and in the more informal settings.”
