Good news for ski jumping in Falun
After the Nordic World Championships in Falun were a success, the foundation for a positive future for the sport of ski jumping in the region shall be laid now.
This fall three children's hills (K8, K15 and K35) will be built at the Lugnet. If everything goes according to plan, the first jumps can be made there already early next year.
"It feels good, that we are now able to present a solution that allows to start ski jumping there already this winter", said Dan Nygren, municipal chief executive and CEO of Falun2015.
Jan Halvardsson, chairman of the local ski club Holmens IF, is obviously also happy about these plans. "For us it's important that we can jump there this winter. It's fantastic, that we can start to rebuild the club. Hopefully we will soon reach the same number of athletes we had in the early and mid 2000s."
The costs for this project amount to 3 million SEK (about 320 000 Euro) and will be financed by Falun2015. In order to minimize the costs, the ski club contacted a university for mining engineering, that will now carry out the blasting work. So the students get on-the-job training and the costs are reduced.
"With this project we now fulfilled our promise, that we already made before the World Championships. We are happy that we can inform the International Ski Federation about it and that Holmens IF is satisfied with this solution", Dan Nygren told.
