Preview FIS Calendar Conference 2017 in Portoroz

The basis for a successful winter season already beings in the spring as Portoroz (SLO) is preparing to host the entire FIS Family for the traditional FIS Calendar Conference from 24th-28thMay 2017.

During the numerous meetings of the FIS Committees, many important decisions, rules updates and calendar planning are expected from the members.

As usual, one of the most anticipated topics are the World Cup calendars for the FIS Olympic Disciplines. Nearly every World Cup has its framework in place, but there will be some fine tuning before the calendars are handed over to the FIS Council for its approval.

Additionally, several Technical Committees will meet to address rules and regulations and to exchange knowledge and experiences from the past season. Alongside the meetings, there will be a briefing with the Candidates for the 2023 FIS World Championships.

Of particular interest at this year’s Calendar Conference is the update on the FIS Strategic Plan, which will be provided to all participants wishing to attend on Saturday morning, 27th May.

On 28th May, the FIS Council will hold its Meeting. The most important items on the agenda include proposals from the Technical Committees, including confirmation of the FIS World Cup calendars 2017/18, appointment of technical officials at major events, membership applications from new National Ski Associations and the appointment of the host for the 52nd FIS Congress in 2020.

Naturally, the hundreds of participants are also looking forward to the social side of the week of meetings and the chance to catch up and hold discussions away from the meeting rooms, as Portoroz located on Slovenia’s beautiful coastline is sure to provide the perfect backdrop to the first preparations for the 2017/18 season.
