Vikersund applies for 2022 FIS Ski Flying World Championships

The application brings the total number of candidates for the 2022/2023 FIS World Championships to five, with two bids for the Alpine Events and two bids for the Nordic Disciplines. The Vikersund candidacy is one of two for Norway as Trondheim has submitted its application for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2023.

Due to the restricted number of Ski Flying facilities worldwide, the FIS Ski Flying World Championships traditionally rotates between five venues. Planica (SLO) will host the 2020 edition and is the second candidate applying to host the 2023 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships.

Oberstdorf (GER) will play host to the 2018 edition and is the host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2021. Harrachov (CZE) and Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf (GER) are the other two venues for Ski Flying competitions.

The FIS Council will elect the FIS World Championship hosts at the FIS Congress in May 2018. If Vikersund is named the venue for the 2022 FIS Ski Flying World Championships, it will be the fifth time it has hosted the event after 1977, 1990, 2000 and 2012.
