Under the lights of the coastal town of Portoroz (SLO), the Ski Association of Slovenia welcomed the FIS Family with an evening reception staged under perfect conditions at Grand Hotel Bernardin, where the meetings are being staged.
On hand was FIS President Gian Franco Kasper who remarked, “the Slovenian hospitality coupled with the beautiful backdrop of Portoroz makes this evening and the entire Calendar Conference memorable. Thank you to the Ski Association of Slovenia and to all participants who have travelled from far and wide to work on the future of our sport.”
Also welcoming the guests the President of the Slovenian Ski Association Enzo Smrekar said, “we are honoured tonight to welcome so many of our skiing friends from all around the globe. We hope that you enjoy your time in Portoroz and have some time between the many meetings to enjoy our country and hospitality."
Tina Gržinič representing the Slovenian Tourism Board joined Enzo Smrekar in welcoming the participants to the Adriatic seaside. Portoroz hosts the FIS meetings for the fifth time and provides excellent conditions for the FIS family to convene.
The welcome evening was the official kick-off to the week of Committee Meetings taking place during the FIS Calendar Conference, which traditionally takes place in the spring of non-Congress years. More than 800 delegates are expected to converge on Portoroz during the week, with the biggest day coming on Friday when all of the main Committees in each of the FIS disciplines meet.
Already on Wednesday, the first Committees met including the Medical Committee, the newly created Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski Committee, the Public Relations and Mass Media Committee and several Sub-Committees across the various disciplines. Tomorrow, 25th May, is the first full day with nearly 30 meetings on the official plan, including the meeting of the newly elected FIS Athletes’ Commission.
The Calendar Conference will conclude on Sunday 28th May when the FIS Council holds its semi-annual meeting to go over the various proposals and recommendations from the FIS Committees.
