FIS Development Alpine Training Camp underway on Austrian glaciers

21 young athletes from 14 developing National Ski Associations* are currently participating in a 30-day training camp at the Stubai, Hintertux and Pitztal glaciers in Austria. Starting on 15th October 2017, excellent snow conditions have provided favourable training.

In the morning, the athletes participate in intensive on-snow training with a focus on slalom and giant slalom, while in the afternoon, they work out in the gym or on the sports field to develop speed, muscular endurance and coordination. In addition, they benefit from the knowledge of FIS experts who, besides training sessions, perform video analysis and provide valuable tips on the preparation of skiing equipment.

Under the framework of the FIS Development Programme, the training camp in Austria is conducted on a yearly basis to provide an opportunity for athletes to participate in structured and professional training sessions. The athletes are split into two different groups in order to allow for more individualised and focused training sessions. The second period of the camp takes place from 19thNovember-16th December 2017.

“During this first session, we were able to benefit from optimal slope and snow conditions at the three glaciers and would like to express our special thanks to the Organisers for their excellent support”, underlined Camp Coordinator Markus Malsiner. “We wish the athletes all the best for the upcoming races.”
