With 315 days until the opening of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2019, the FIS Coordination Group gathered on 9th and 10th April 2018 in Seefeld (AUT) for its semi-annual meeting to review preparations for the upcoming Championships.
Members of the Austrian Ski Federation and its Local Seefeld Organising Committee, FIS and media and commercial rights holders, Infront met for the spring gathering after a busy winter in Seefeld that included World Cup races in both Cross Country and Nordic Combined in addition to the traditional Four Hills stop in Innsbruck, which will host the Ski Jumping competitions for the championships.
Led by Secretary General of the Austrian Ski Federation, Klaus Leistner, the major updates from the Seefeld 2019 team included the upgrades and improvements to the sport and venue infrastructure.
Werner Friesser, Mayor of Seefeld, who is also specifically responsible for sport in the Local Organising Committee, gave a detailed report about the courses for Cross Country and Nordic Combined. He also provided an update on the Austrian Railways project, which is underway to redevelop the train station. Thanks to the short walking distance to the venues, this will enable even more visitors to travel conveniently to Seefeld.
On the promotional side, the Seefeld 2019 team announced the launch of the official website www.seefeld 2019.com and a wide range of ticket packages were also presented. So far more than 600 people have signed up to volunteer for the World Championships, with an impressive 60% coming from outside Austria to underline the truly international nature of the event and outlook of Seefeld 2019.
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will take place from 20th February – 3rd March 2019. The final competition is planned traditionally as the men’s 50km Cross-Country race on Sunday, 3rdMarch.
The next Coordination Group meeting will be the Final Inspection held in late autumn to review the final preparations before the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
