Gian Franco Kasper is confident about the success of St. Moritz 2017
Almost one year after St. Moritz (SUI) was awarded the honour to host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2017 at the FIS Congress 2012 in Kangwonland (KOR), preparations are now in full swing.

On 1st and 2nd May 2013, the first Coordination Group meeting took place at the well-known resort in the Engadine valley. The St. Moritz 2017 team led by Hugo Wetzel was joined by representatives of the City of St. Moritz, the Swiss Ski Association, FIS, EBU and Tridem Sports, the sales agency for the TV and marketing rights holder European Broadcasting Union.

The information exchange highlighted the current state of activity as well as the vision and strategy for the World Championships. One of the notable aspects was the inclusion of a youth group and many local inhabitants in the organisation of the major event.

Drawing on a wealth of experience gained from the annual organisation of the ladies’ World Cup and European Cup races since the last World Championships in 2003, the St. Moritz 2017 Organisers outlined the proposed event management structure that will help guide the preparation and planning for the Championships over the next four years. The gathering also discussed major milestones, the planned organisational structure, facilities, sports organisation, media services and broadcasting.

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper commented: “We are confident that the blend of experience from 2003 and numerous annual events, combined with the young and dynamic new members of the team will stand St. Moritz 2017 in very good stead for outstanding FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.”
