Martin Fiala - Ass. Race Director Freestyle Ski Cross
FIS is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Fiala as Assistant Race Director Freestyle Ski Cross. He will be overseeing the sports-technical side of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup, working closely with FIS Freestyle Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald and the Local Organising Committees. For the past two seasons Martin has worked as Ski Cross Techical Course Advisor and established relations with the Teams, Organisers and Officials.

During his own active career, Martin was a long-time member of the German Alpine Ski Team, racing downhill and super-G in the World Cup and at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Morioka (JPN) in 1993 and Saalbach-Hinterglemm (AUT) in 1991. In 1997, Martin founded a new media company XnX GmbH, which grew to be one of the main ski and snow information network platforms. He sold the company to Skiinfo AS in 2008 and has continued to work as an independent advisor for online strategy ever since. From 2008-2010, Martin made a successful comeback to competitive sport and qualified for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 in ski cross. Martin has also coached for the DSV, including at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, and served as Vice-President of the Bavarian Ski Federation since 2008. Moreover he has played a key role in organising the Ski Cross World Cup in Germany since 2011 and also works as co-publisher of the annual Backline Backcountry Freeskiing Photo & Story Magazine and its online version Spots4Adventures.

Martin (45), who was born in the Czech Republic and grew up in Germany, enjoys the outdoors where he recharges his batteries and speaks fluent German, Czech and English.

Martin succeeds Joel Franitch in the role of Assistant Race Director Freestyle Ski Cross and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Joel for all his work and wish him well in his future endeavours.
