FIS presents Technical Officials systems
At the annual meeting of the IOC Entourage Commission chaired by Executive Board Member Sergey Bubka, FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis was requested to present information about the qualification, education and activities of the FIS Technical Delegates and Judges.

Other items on the agenda of the Commission included: Progress reports from a series of projects, Sanctions for Members of the Athletes Entourage, Betting, Online Educational Tools and Accreditation for the Athletes Entourage.

In order to officiate at the 7,042 competitions in 2012/13 in the six FIS Olympic disciplines, there are presently 1,227 Technical Delegates and 1,202 Judges that are assigned to officiate at all competitions on the FIS Calendar.

Every year there is an extensive programme of Seminars, Workshops, Clinics and Courses for FIS Technical Delegates and Judges in each of the disciplines to review experiences from the past season, address issues with the rules and procedures that may have come to light as a result of incidents that occurred in addition to discussing the latest methods and technologies to prepare and execute the competitions. In 2013, 71 such courses for Technical Delegates and Judges are being organised in around 15 different nations on 5 continents.

A focus of the presentation was dedicated to judging and the IOC Entourage Commission members were particularly impressed with the scope of the Freestyle Skiing wiki site, the Snowboard judges clinic education material and the process for evaluation of the judges performances in Ski Jumping.

The use of professional expert Race Directors and/or Coordinators in each of the FIS disciplines on the programme of the Olympic Winter Games in supporting the Local Organising Committee with the preparation and execution of the competitions was also recognised as a highly successful model, especially the harmonious collaboration with the Technical Delegates.

In concluding, the IOC Entourage Commission acknowledged the crucial role played by the Technical Officials and Judges at FIS competitions, as well as their high level of performance at Olympic Winter Games, which will hopefully also be the case for Sochi 2014!
