Recommendation from the FIS Medical Committee
The FIS Medical Committee recently circulated a letter to the National Ski Associations to bring to their attention the importance of cardiovascular and lung resuscitation (CVPR) which may confront all at anytime and anywhere.

Athletes are well trained in strength as well as in endurance, which makes them well qualified to give CVPR in case something happens nearby that requires immediate CVPR. It is hard work even for professionals in medical care.

The National Teams of the Norwegian Ski Association have been trained in CVPR, as reported by Ingaard Lereim, Vice-Chairman of the FIS Medical Committee. They were taught by specialists in emergency medicine, pre-hospital and hospital workers (medical doctors, paramedics and nurses).

This item has been discussed in the FIS Medical Committee and the members agree on the usefulness of such training for athletes in general. Such training can be carried out locally following the international guidelines in CVPR which are well known in all FIS member nations. Consequently the FIS Medical Committee proposes that all National Ski Associations should educate their athletes, coaches and other supporting officials in CVPR so they can contribute if such needs ever arise.
