FIS PyeongChang 2018 Sport Workshop
Preparations are quietly yet industriously progressing at POCOG, the Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR).

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis today concluded a two-day workshop in the Olympic host city about FIS and its role, responsibilities and expectations for the Games. Participants included the Sports Directors and the 21 newly recruited Sports Managers, as well as representatives of the Korean Ski Association and Venue Construction for the main session on Tuesday.

A tour to the Alpine Skiing downhill venue at Jungbong followed by the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard venue at Bokwang Phoenix Park was the focus on Wednesday morning. Afterwards a question and answer session concluded the workshop with the POCOG Sport Managers.

In Seoul, Sarah Lewis met the newly appointed Secretary General of the Korean Ski Association Jong Pil Park and members of staff, during which they discussed the important role of building up the Korean teams towards 2018. Over the coming years they will work hand in hand with POCOG and supported by FIS to develop the national technical officials and sport workforce, with FIS test events beginning in 2016.

In summarising Sarah Lewis stated “This was a valuable opportunity to meet the new recruits at POCOG with whom FIS will be working closely over the next 5 years and exchange information with the Korean Ski Association about PyeongChang 2018. There is a great sense of enthusiasm as well as commitment to dealing with the challenges ahead in order to organise outstanding Olympic Winter Games in 2018”.

The visit was concluded by a wrap-up with PyeongChang 2018 President Jin-sun Kim and Secretary General Donghoo Moon together with FIS Vice President Sung Won Lee.
