2018/2019 World Championship Candidates
A major milestone in the bidding process for the FIS World Championships 2018 and 2019 was reached by the six Candidates this week in Zurich (SUI).

Four Candidates for the Nordic events, Almaty (KAZ), Oberstdorf (GER), Planica (SLO) and Seefeld (AUT) along with two Candidates for the Alpine events Are (SWE) and Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA) presented their initial project concepts to the FIS Inspection Group.

Oberstdorf is also the sole Candidate to host the 2018 Ski Flying World Championships. The Ski Flying World Championships are rotated between the five existing hills that host the bi-annual event.

Each Candidate had around two hours to present their concepts in detail, as well as to discuss open issues and questions with the FIS Inspection Group members including the representatives of the media and marketing rights holder Infront Sports & Media.

Following the meetings in Zurich, the Candidates will finalise their concepts based on the feedback from the meetings. Thereafter the FIS Inspection Group will prepare its report in the coming months, which will be submitted to the National Ski Associations, Technical Committee Chairs and the FIS Council.

The next six months of work will lead to the 49th International Ski Congress week in Barcelona (SPA), where the Candidates will present their plans and meet the extended FIS family at their information stands. It will be a busy week for them during which each Candidate will each make their final presentation to the FIS Council and also give the respective Technical Committees a report about their candidacy.

The process will reach its climax on 5th June 2014 in Barcelona, when the FIS Council Members elect the Organisers of the 2018/2019 FIS World Championships.
