Falun 2015: New funicular is operating
With Falun (SWE) gearing up for the FIS final inspection from 13th-14th October, the host of the 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships recently finalised a major construction project.

A brand new funicular will serve both as a means of transport for athletes at the Ski Jumping hills and as an important attraction for visitors to the Lugnet Stadium.

“We are planning to have an official inauguration during the autumn, and as of November we aim to be open seven days a week” said Liselotte Jonsson, CEO of Lugnet Falun AB.

Falun locals and tourists stand to gain most from the funicular, but during the 2015 World Championships, it will be used by Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes. Earlier, officials had to drive the athletes up to the jumping hills, which will now become a much smoother process.

“The funicular will make it easier for the competitors, both during the World Championships and on other occasions, and athletes training here will be able to make good use of it.”, said Henrik Belin, project manager for the construction.

The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be held from 18th February to 1st March 2015.
