OC/TD seminar in Zurich
The representatives of the Organizing Committees of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup and the World Cup Technical Delegates gathered in Zürich for another edition of the joint Autumn seminar. More than 50 participants from thirteen countries took part. On Friday evening, the participants took part in a networking event and on Saturday it was time for the presentations, updates and workshops.

The morning session was devoted to various presentations. Katarina Medveczky, head of communications at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, outlined how they tackle social media communication, Patrice Drouin from the LOC Quebec sprint, presented how the team area was prepared. Claudio Daguati from Val Müstar, showed an example of a very good and effective cooperation with the FISMAG. Last but not least Ralf Kreuzer from OC Lenzerheide described how their spectators village was put in place and how sponsors and partners were involved in the project.

Enthusiasm and creativity was the common theme in all the presentations. “I’m happy the LOCs could meet with each other and could share best practices and experiences. We are going to develop the seminar to be even more effective in the future,” Event Coordinator Sandra Spitz said. As a conclusion of the LOC session, FIS Cross-Country Race Director Pierre Mignerey informed the participants about what is new in the sport and event organization.

Nutrition specialist Wilma Emmenegger from SPZ and Sportmedicine
Nottwil gave participants an important introduction in sport nutrition and nutrition needs of high performance endurance athletes.

The afternoon session started with an interesting presentation of Hans Pieren who showed the participants basics how to use salt to secure best skiing conditions in special snow situations. Mr Pieren even brought two boxes of snow to demonstrate the impact of various types of salt on snow.

Second part of the TD update was led by FIS Technical Delegates Uros Ponikvar (SLO) and Karl-Heinz Lickert, who is also Chairman of the Sub-committee for Rules and Control, informed the TDs and Chiefs of Competition about the new ICR articles, updated rules and guidelines for jury work. Using video clips, various case studies and borderline situations were discussed to make the jury work even more consistent.
