Vail Opening Ceremony Dreams It, Lives It and Shares It
The 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championship officially got underway today at a festive opening ceremony held in Vail.
A packed crowd joined the athletes at the Solaris Awards Plaza to kick off the two-week World Championships in grand style with a programme that celebrated the official motto of the Vail 2015 World Championships, ‘Dream It, Live It, Share It.’
The ceremony kicked off with the parade of nations as the athletes marched in behind the flags of the 68 participating countries. Once the athletes were settled, the memorable show began as the voice of Hollywood star Kevin Costner narrated the entire evening and led the spectators through the three primary segments of the show.
With the singing of the musical group The Tenors setting the stage, the Dream It segment featured videos of some of the World championship athletes in their younger days as their dream of becoming a World Champion first began. The segment concluded with past ski legends, such as Anja Paerson and Didier Cuche marching out.
The Live It segment then took center stage with the highlight being the hoisting of the official FIS flag for the duration of the World Championship. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and President of the Vail Organising Committee Ceil Folz, among other dignitaries addressed the crowd and welcomed them to the World Championships.
The evening concluded with the Share It sequence, which included the passing of the torch from U.S. ski legends, and ultimately ending in the hands of U.S. star Mikeala Shiffrin. Michael Franti closed the ceremony by singing the official Vail 2015 World Championship song.
