Snowboard Jamboree: FIS Halfpipe World Cup cancelled
With less than three weeks to go before the Snowboard Jamboree / FIS Snowboard World Cup presented in Stoneham and Québec City, the Québec Winter Events Corporation, the International Ski Federation (FIS), and Stoneham Mountain Resort have no choice but to cancel the Halfpipe World Cup due to a lack of snow.
The FIS Big Air World Cup presented by Vidéotron Mobile at Îlot Fleurie and the FIS Slopestyle World Cup presented by Mazda will take place as planned.
Significant lack of snow
“Following the resort’s labour dispute and the holiday season’s mild weather, we have been determined to deliver the best possible ski conditions to our loyal customers.
We are unable to host the FIS Halfpipe World Cup for two reasons: the lack of water available to make snow as well as the time needed to produce a halfpipe that meets FIS standards,” explained Daniel Rochon, general manager of Stoneham Mountain Resort.
“In the coming weeks, we will put 100% of our efforts into the slopestyle course, an event that we guarantee to host.”
The line-up of events promises to remain as diverse and exciting as ever, however.
Festivities will officially kick off on Friday, February 20 at 6 p.m. with the FIS Big Air World Cup at Îlot Fleurie, which will be open to women for the first time in Québec.
The evening will continue with the inaugural Night Bazaar, the official Snowboard Jamboree Party at Le Cercle, featuring snowboarding, music, art, and great food.
On Saturday, the action will move to the mountain for the FIS Slopestyle World Cup, along with a host of other activities!
