FIS Council Gathering - Vail 2015
As has become traditional since 2003, the FIS Council held its Gathering in conjunction with the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail Beaver Creek on Wednesday morning. It is an opportunity for the FIS leadership to have a strategic and general discussion about the direction of the organisation, with the possibility to take decisions if needed.
In addition, two decisions were taken during the meeting:
- Appointment of Mika Kojonkoski (FIN) as new Chairman of Ski Jumping Committee
Following the passing of Jouko Toermaenen (FIN) on 2nd January 2015, the Council decided to appoint a successor ahead of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun (SWE) that begin next week on 18th February 2015.
Kojonkoski, 51 was elected ahead of Franci Petek (SLO) and Bertil Paulsrud (NOR).
He has had a very successful career as a Ski Jumping coach in Finland, Austria and Norway and is presently the Director of the High Performance Unit of the Finnish National Olympic Committee.
- Election of Åre (SWE) as Organiser of the FIS Junior Alpine World Ski Championships in 2017
On proposal of the Swedish Ski Association and the Organising Committee of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2019, the Council elected Åre (SWE) as Organiser of the FIS Junior Alpine World Ski Championships in 2017.
This event will enable an excellent test of the infrastructure and operations in preparations for the World Championships in 2019, but also give the young champions of the future an exciting opportunity to compete at a top-level venue.
