Background story: The 23rd Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR), the highlight of the next winter season for every athlete, will start less than eight months from now.

During the test events last winter, the Organizers in PyeongChang already did a very good job, athletes and officials were impressed. The Alpensia Jumping Park is a venue on the highest level.

The preparations in the eastern part of South Korea are in full swing, in certain fields the final tests are already conducted at the moment, for example regarding the competition software that will be used for the Ski Jumping events at the Olympics.

Different systems must be reconciled

The main challenge during the Olympic Games is, that the results of the various competitions in the different disciplines have to be measured, recorded and presented to the audience on TV, the media representatives and everyone involved through result lists, statistics and analysis on a similar level than in the World Cup. Something that is usually taken for granted, but that requires a huge effort during the preparation period and also at the competitions.

It has to be made sure, that the recorded data for every competition is processed and displayed according to the requirements of the IOC. This requires a lot of effort because different systems are used in the various associations and for the different disciplines. The recorded data of the different systems have to be displayed consistently and, of course, absolutely correct.

Numerous scenarios are simulated and tested to see if the results are displayed accurately and in the for the Olympic Games required graphic framework on the result lists, screens and scoreboards.

This is a difficult task for all the software engineers and officials of the different countries. After three days of intense tests and adjustments, the software was finally approved and one of the many puzzle pieces on the way to PyeongChang 2018 was worked off.
