FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard officials were in PyeongChang (KOR) from 9th-11th July 2017 for one of the final site inspections before the Olympic Winter Games next February.
In addition to the FIS representatives, key staff from the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee and the Korean Ski Association and representatives of the Bokwang Phoenix Park, Olympic Broadcasting Services and course designers participated in the meeting.
Both disciplines will share the same venues in 2018. During the inspections, the courses and installations were checked, and the TV set-up was discussed in detail.
Courses looked excellent and the surface was resistant despite heavy Monsoon rain during the inspection
“We had very promising meetings. The most significant work has now been completed and the Organisers are getting ready for the final sprint. With the successful Olympic test events in the books, we are now looking forward to outstanding Olympic competitions next winter” commented Snowboard Race Director Uwe Beier.
“The POCOG sports staff is working very hard to integrate all of the layers together. Every square meter is being used. We had very fruitful meetings with the Korean Ski Association, Olympic Broadcasting Services and the Olympic Results and Information Services. These groups along with the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee are key to having successful Games” added Freestyle Skiing Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald.
The inspection followed on the heels of the Olympic Results Information Service homologation tests which were held in PyeongChang from 3rd-8th July to ensure accurate and smooth delivery of the competition information during Games time
