Final IOC Coordination Commission meeting in PyeongChang underway

The ninth, and final, Coordination Commission for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 kicked-off on Tuesday. From 29th -31st August, top officials from the International Olympic Committee, together with leaders from the seven International Winter Sport Federations and representatives of the NOCs are holding their final preparation meetings with the aim to give PyeongChang the final green light.

FIS is represented at the Coordination Commission meeting by FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis. Both were impressed by the developments in Korea and have high expectations for the Games.

“The passion and dedication from the PyeongChang Organising Committee is clear,” said Kasper. “Now at this final Coordination Committee meeting their hard work over the past several years is evident with everything in excellent shape to welcome the world’s top athletes in February.”

FIS Secretary General added, “It was our final opportunity to see all of the Olympic venues and we can be pleased with the progress of the four skiing and snowboard venues and the collaboration with the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee (POCOG) who are striving hard to offer optimal conditions for the athletes, spectators and media. PyeongChang is ready, we are ready and the world is ready.”

Following the Coordination Committee meeting, the FIS technical staff in all six disciplines, including Race Directors will arrive in PyeongChang next week for a Final Inspection of the technical aspects of the venues and combined operational meetings with the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee.
