After completing its week-long tour of Greece, the Olympic flame was officially handed over to the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee on 31st October 2017 as the Olympic Torch Relay prepared for its 100-day journey around the host country of next year’s Olympic Winter Games. The ceremony took place at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
Today, 1st November, the Olympic flame arrived in the Republic of Korea, 100 days before the start of PyeongChang 2018.
There were hundreds of people waiting to greet the flame as it landed. Flickering inside two safety lanterns, it was carried from the plane by the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Do Jong-hwan, and Olympic figure skating gold medallist and national idol Yuna Kim.
After the ceremony, the Olympic flame began its journey around the entire country. In total it will visit nine provinces and eight major cities, before it finally arrives at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium in time for the Opening Ceremony on 9th February 2018.
