Two years to Lausanne 2020

The Lausanne 2020 Organising Committee, together with the official timekeeper of the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games, OMEGA, celebrated the two-year countdown to the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020, at a special ceremony on 9th January 2018, where it unveiled a countdown clock.

The ceremony, which included a hip hop dancing demonstration, took place in Lausanne (SUI).

Lausanne 2020 has, since being named host, aimed to organise the Youth Olympic Games for and with the youth. To do so, the Organising Committee works closely with different stakeholders to involve local students and pupils from primary and secondary schools.

To mark the two-year milestone, some 1,200 students from the YOG host sites formed the slogan “JOJ 2020 2 YEARS TO GO”, with a striking result.

Lausanne 2020 will mark the third edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Around 1,880 young athletes from over 70 nations will compete in 81 events around the Swiss city of Lausanne, on the shores of Lake Geneva, St. Moritz, and in the nearby Vaud Alps and French Jura mountains.

Lausanne 2020 will be particularly notable for having the same number of male and female athletes competing, as well as being the first time that ladies’ Nordic Combined and ski and snowboard big appear on the Youth Olympic Games programme.
