Iouri Podladtchikov unveils statue on Olympic Day
IOC President Thomas Bach celebrated Olympic Day with over 1’000 athletes at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne on Monday, 23rd June 2014.

Festivities included the second edition of the "Olympic Capital Run" which Bach kicked off, where he called on people around the world to get physically active and enjoy the benefits of leading healthy lifestyles.

After the run, Bach and Sochi snowboard halfpipe Olympic Champion Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) unveiled a new statue of the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin. The bronze statue was a gift to the Olympic Museum from the Chinese Olympic Committee during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Besides Podlatchikov, the Dufour-Lapointe sisters Justine, Chloe and Maxime, who rose to fame during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (RUS), were among athletes calling on people across the globe to get physically active.

The IOC also used social media to encourage people to "get off the couch." Thousands participated in the campaign and posted pictures of themselves taking part in a sport.
