Ester Ledecka wins 21st International Matteo Baumgarten Award

The International Matteo Baumgarten Award is an annual prize that recognises young athletes who are completing their studies and education while competing at a high level in one of the six FIS Olympic disciplines.

This year, the 21st edition of the award saw 24 nominations submitted from 17 National Ski Associations.

After careful analysis by the Baumgarten family, Ester Ledecka from Czech Republic was chosen as the winner. While studying Marketing Communication at the University of Finance and Administration in Prague, Ester is a uniquely talented athlete, as World Cup champion in Snowboard parallel who also competes successfully at World Cup level of Alpine Skiing.

She will be presented the award in Bormio, Italy on 14th May 2017 at the meeting of the Lions Club Bormio in front of many dignitaries and prominent personalities.

Ester also joins a full line-up of champions including Tina Maze (SLO), Tanja Poutiainen (FIN), Ilka Stuhec (SLO), Bernadette Schild (AUT) and Ramon Zenhäusern (SUI), who have all managed the demanding lifestyle of elite competition and study.

The Baumgarten family would like to warmly thank all the National Ski Associations and the nominees for participating in this year’s award.

FIS would like to thank all the participating athletes and hopes they get inspired by Ester Ledecka to keep pursuing their goals in winter sports while completing their studies.
