After months of hard training, the stars of Nordic Combined are ready for the traditional FIS Grand Prix series this summer, which has been extended by one stop and expects more than 25,000 spectators.
Germany’s Oberwiesenthal will welcome the athletes along with the Ski Jumping ladies for a Continental Cup event from 18th-20th August where the home crowd will be delighted to welcome its newly-appointed honorary citizen Eric Frenzel.
On 23rd August, Montafon (AUT) will host the Nordic Combined athletes for a mid-week event. The Organiser returns to the calendar for the second time after the inaugural event was a big success in 2015.
Afterwards, the Grand Prix will return to Germany for two events in Oberstdorf from 24th-26th August where the senior athletes will be joined by the FIS Youth Cup as has become tradition Following Vuokatti (FIN), the young Nordic Combined athletes - male and female - will have their second event this summer in Oberstdorf and will have joint prize giving ceremonies with the Grand Prix stars.
After a break, the finals will be held from 30th September to 1st October in the new, highly- acclaimed Nordic Centre in Planica (SLO) which celebrates its debut as Grand Prix Organiser.
The FIS Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix will be the first opportunity to see if the German dominance of the past season has the potential to spill over into the Olympic year or if new contenders step on the stage. While legend Hannu Manninen (FIN) will not make an appearance during the summer, fellow returnee Jason Lamy Chappuis (FRA) might stage his international comeback.
