Countdown to Audi Quattro Winter Games and start of Freestyle/Snowboard World Cup

The fifth biennial Audi Quattro Winter Games NZ are set to kick off the FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard World Cup season with half pipe and slopestyle competitions starting on 25th August. It is sure to offer the first glimpse this season of who will vie for Olympic Gold in PyeongChang in February.

Held every other year, the Audi Quattro Winter Games NZ is one of the more unique winter sports events globally. Olympic and Paralympic athletes from a multitude of sports, including snowboarding, freestyle skiing, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, curling and hockey travel from around the globe to take place in the biggest winter sports event in the Southern Hemisphere.

In past seasons, the Games have been particularly important for the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding disciplines with World Cup points on the line and the chance to set the tone early in the season. With PyeongChang on the horizon, Organisers are expecting a full line.-up of the top riders and skiers on hand to compete.

For the first time all the Central Otago ski areas – Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Snow Farm, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone – will host events, providing a great showcase of what the region has to offer. The result of this wide collaboration between the ski areas means the biggest competition programme to date since the Games started in 2009.

Highlights of the ten-day programme will be the opening ceremony, starring high profile names competing in a spectacular night dual slalom at Coronet Peak and the closing ceremony at Cardrona Alpine Resort featuring the FIS World Cup Snowboard Halfpipe.
