COC: Pius Paschke takes his first win

More than seven years after his debut in the Continental Cup, Pius Paschke of Germany took his first win in this competition series on Saturday in Trondheim (NOR).

The 27-year-old from Kiefersfelden was sixth after the first round with his 127.5 m, in the final he then posted the longest jump of the day with 135.5 m and so the German could celebrate his first ever win in the COC with 260.6 points. So far a second place in January 2014 in Courchevel was his best result.

The second and third place today went to Slovenia. Tilen Bartol scored 258.4 points with 130 m and 134 m and was second. His teammate Timi Zajc was the best athlete in the first round on the Granasen with 130 m, his second jump of 131.5 m and 255.7 points were enough for the third place this afternoon. This was the first podium finish in the COC for the 17-year-old.

Richard Freitag of Germany, second behind Zajc and ahead of Bartol after the first half of the competition, came in behind the two Slovenes and finished fourth. Joakim Aune was the best Norwegian in fifth. Behind Klemens Muranka of Poland (6th), Joachim Hauer (7th) was the second local hero among the best today.

Thomas Lackner of Austria came in eighth, followed by the third-best German in this competition, Constantin Schmid, who moved up from 16th to ninth with a strong final jump. Michael Glasder of the USA could also show a convincing performance and achieved a very good result with the tenth place.

In the overall ranking of the Continental Cup, Klemens Muranka was able to further extend his lead. With 522 points he now leads 200 points ahead of Slovenia's Miran Zupancic, Pius Paschke is currently third with 200 points.
