On the Snow: Levi and Milan deliver great show

Two FIS disciplines were on the calendar last weekend with Alpine and Snowboard big air scheduled in Levi (FIN) and Milan (ITA), respectively.

The first half of the Milan big air series was a smashing success with a packed house on hand at the site of the World Expo 2016 to cheer on the world’s top riders. Chris Corning led the American podium sweep on the men’s side, while superstar Anna Gasser (AUT) showed she is in top form with the ladies’ victory. The action in Milan will continue this weekend when the freeskiers take centre stage on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, close to the Arctic Circle, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup technical athletes were in action. In the ladies’ race on Saturday, surprise winner Petra Vlhova (SVK) put down an excellent second run to claim the win over Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) and Wendy Holdener (SUI). In Sunday’s men’s race, it came down to the last skier. Great Britain’s David Ryding, looking for his first-ever World Cup victory, was the fastest in the first run and leading the second run when he missed one of the last gates on the hill. The mistake propelled Felix Neureuther (GER) to his 13th career World Cup victory in the thrilling race.
