Weirather wins first super-G of the season

Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein channeled her frustrations after finishing fifth in Saturday's downhill to claim her first win of the season in Sunday's super-G at Lake Louise. The super-G discipline title winner from the 2016/17 season got back to her winning ways after skiing into second place in Friday's downhill.

Just 0.11 seconds back was Weirather's biggest rival in super-G, Lara Gut of Switzerland. Gut returned to competition at the start of this season after suffering a season-ending knee injury last February at the World Championships. The second-place finish marked her first time back on a World Cup podium since her injury.

The 2017 super-G World Champion, Nicole Schmidhofer of Austria, rounded out the podium in third at 0.27 seconds back. Some athletes struggled to hold their line through the challenging Fish Net section, but all three women on the podium were able to carry speed through to the finish.

Although more crashes ensued on the track, no skiers were injured. Lindsey Vonn, Ester Ledecka, and Anna Hofer were all able to ski away after sliding at various points along the course, including Claire's Corner.

The ladies now move on to St. Moritz, Switzerland, where they will contest an alpine combined and two super-Gs from 8-10 December.
