FIS Rollerski World Cup continues in Madona (LAT)

FIS Rollerski World Cup continues this weekend in Madona, Latvia. The competition programme started on Friday with 200m sprint. Athletes from Latvia along with Italy and Norway took the victories, skiers from Sweden, Russia and Slovakia were among the podium place winners on the first competition day of the second stage of World cup this season.

FIS Rollerski World sprint champion from 2015 and 2017 Emanuele Becchis (Italy) showed his supremacy and won the uphill sprint in Madona city for the fourth year in a row, leaving his teammate and three times world champion Alessio Berlanda in second and Norwegian Ludvig Jensen in third. After finishing just in ninth place in Torsby sprint one week ago, Italian Lisa Bolzan was fastest among the ladies, taking victory since July 2017. Swedish Jackline Lockner repeated her success from first stage and was second again, while last year winner and World cup overall title holder this time completed the podium with third place.


Home crowd cheered loudest, when local favorite Latvian Raimo Vigants left no chances for others in the final, repeating his achievement from 2015. Winner of sprint week ago Aleksander Grigoriev from Russia settled for second, but in close battle Swedish Johan Ekberg earned third place. After a few second and third places finally the first victory in her carrier came for Norwegian Julie Arnesen, as last two years Madona sprint winner and current World junior champion Alba Mortagna from Italy reconciled with second place. Meanwhile World cup leader and winner of seasons first sprint Moa Hansson from Sweden earned third place.
