Karl Geiger first GP-winner in Rasnov

Karl Geiger of Germany won the FIS Grand Prix premiere in Rasnov (ROU). The 25-year-old from Oberstdorf showed an outstanding performance on the HS 97 hill and took a well-deserved win ahead of Piotr Zyla of Poland and Russia's Evgeniy Klimov.

In front of 2000 fans, Geiger showed the best jump in both rounds of this first ever Grand Prix competition in Rasnov, where the spectators created a great atmosphere for this premiere event in Transylvania.

This was the first win in the Grand Prix for Geiger, his best result so far was the second place in Hinterzarten earlier this summer. With 99 m in the final, Geiger also posted the longest jump of the day. Standing on top of the podium for the first time is an amazing feeling. This was a really good competition for me", said the happy winner.

Piotr Zyla achieved his third podium result this summer: " I'm really satisfied with my jumps, maybe they were not perfect, but they were okay and being on on the podium is always good. I think it doesn't matter, whether it's a small or a big hill, this hill is quite nice and it's nice to jump here."

For Evgeniy Klimov, today's third place was already the fifth podium finish this season. Klimov praised the hill in Rasnov afterwards: It was a great competition. For me, this hill here in Rasnov is one of the best in the world. Of course, I'm happy that I was able to extend my lead in the overall ranking today."

Dawid Kubacki of Poland confirmed his strong performance in the official training with a strong fourth place. With Kubacki, Stefan Hula (7th), Maciej Kot (9th), Jakub Wolny (10th) and superstar Kamil Stoch (12th) the Polish team once again demonstrated its strength this summer.

Vladimir Zografski of Bulgaria surprised in fifth, Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN), who won twice in Hakuba, came in sixth and was the best Japanese athlete today. Roman Koudelka once again proved his positive trend this summer with the eighth place.

FIS Race Director impressed

It was a strong premiere for the Rumanian organizers. The perfectly organized event and the good atmosphere on the spectator stands earned them the praise of FIS Race Director Walter Hofer.

Evgeniy Klimov extends overall lead

With his third place in today's competition, Evgeniy Klimov further extended his lead in the Grand Prix overall ranking. He is now 103 points ahead of Kamil Stoch (322 points), Piotr Zyla (310 points) follows in third. Best German in the FIS Grand Prix is Karl Geiger in fourth (256 points).

8 disqualifications

A total of eight competitors was disqualified today. Markus Rupitsch (AUT), Domen Prevc (SLO) and Stephan Leyhe (GER) were disqualified after their first jump because their suits did not meet the rules. The two Japanese Junshiro Kobayashi and Yukiya Sato were disqualified for the same reason before their first jump. In the final round, this fate was shared by Slovenia's Anze Lanisek and Austrian youngster Julian Wienerroither. Viktor Polasek of the Czech Republic could then not pass the final equipment control of the Top 10 due to the air permeability of his jumping suit.

Eight disqualifications in one round - That's a record.
